Raenie's weight problem started when he first went to school through what I guess was stress (he has autism).

I have been back and forward to the local children's hospital with him with no luck - Raenie was told that he only has to do more exercise and eat less. His eating was not the problem - we are a large family and I prepare every meal from scratch. I have always monitored what and when Raenie ate but his weight kept creeping up. I was so scared and worried by this but kept finding that we ended up sitting in front of doctors who disbelieved I was doing everything possible to help Raenie - he is my son and he is my main priority.

The last straw came when they told me he had non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

I felt I must have let him down somehow . . . and, although he is overweight, he doesn't exactly sit around! He does trampolining, plays football games and also swims. He doesn't sit at a computer twenty four seven so I didn't know what to do to help him.

The hospital told me he had to have a liver biopsy - something which shocked me and upset my son. I was allowed to stay with him while he went through this (I have since learned through your book that it was slightly risky, which made me feel even worse). The biopsy showed what we already knew.

At Christmas, while on holiday to the USA, I visited the book shops there as they have such an array of medical books and books on Aspergers (autism). My daughter came across a book called Fatty Liver: you can reverse it by Dr Sandra Cabot and I bought a copy. I decided when we got back to UK I wanted to give this a go for Raenie's sake.

On the 23rd Jan 2013, I started Raenie on this way of eating and we have never looked back. He has done so well! He could have been difficult as he has autism but he has not been. We are so proud of him - he has gone from 14 stone 9lbs to 12 stone 9lbs so far. He sticks to the diet, he has a LivaTone and fish oils daily and my son has named the raw juice he has each morning "green sludge".

As a creature of habit, repetitiveness suits him down to the ground so anyone out there who is thinking of starting this diet should do so - especially if you have a child who has NAFLD because it works!

We are still sticking to the diet and it is nice to see him go from extra large adult clothes to medium size clothing . . . we are very proud and him and he feels good.

Recently, he had a blood test that showed that his liver function was within normal range, no action to be taken. It was a big WOW, so thank you to Dr Sandra Cabot and your team. Without your book and emails of advice we would have never have got any results like this so thank you.
