One of my patients was rather perplexed by the fact that she had lost 5 kilograms (11 pounds) on my low carbohydrate eating plan and the Livatone, but she had gone down 3 dress sizes. She said that for that reduction in dress sizes she should have lost more weight. I replied to her that this was not uncommon in cases of fatty liver such as hers because she had lost a lot of unhealthy fat from her liver and this could not be seen on the scales immediately.

This is because the fat in the liver is replaced with healthy liver cells and although the liver cells weigh less than the fat, they still weigh something. I reassured her that her weight loss would continue with renewed vigour, as we had now improved her liver function.

I added a selenium supplement to her program as this would further improve her liver function. She was a very happy patient as her wellbeing had improved and she no longer craved sugary foods. It can take 6 to 12 months to reverse a fatty liver and weight loss becomes much easier as the liver function continues to improve.
