Sarah saw me at my Brisbane clinic in mid 2005. She was a 49 year old woman who had raised liver enzymes that were 11 times over the normal limit. She had been diagnosed with a fatty liver five years before seeing me. Sarah has also had hepatitis C since she was 17 years old. She had been taking Lamisil tablets for six months, in an attempt to get rid of a fungal infection under four of her fingernails. Her doctor prescribed this drug despite a warning in the prescribing information that Lamisil should not be used by people with liver disease. Sarah's doctor referred her to a liver specialist who wanted her to begin interferon therapy for the hepatitis C.
Not knowing what to do, Sarah came to see me. I immediately took her off the Lamisil and prescribed Livatone Plus and Selenium Complete. The Livatone Plus would help to reduce the inflammation in her liver and the Selenium Complete strengthened her immune system so that she could overcome the fungal infection. I also asked Sarah to follow the Syndrome X eating principles in my book Can't Lose Weight? Unlock the Secrets that Keep you Fat. The eating plan in this book helps to burn fat and reverse fatty liver disease.
I saw Sarah roughly every six weeks in order to monitor her progress. After following my program for nine months she was delighted to know that her liver enzymes all fell back down into the normal range and the fungal infection cleared from all of her fingers except one. Sarah felt so empowered and excited and that motivated her to stick with the Syndrome X eating plan. An added benefit was that she managed to lose 14 kilograms.
The important message to remember from this case study is that many medications can flare up existing liver disease. Lamisil is contraindicated in liver disease and should never have been prescribed to this patient. Several medications have the ability to inflame the liver cells and cause raised liver enzymes; fatty liver and hepatitis C can also cause raised liver enzymes. The added stress of some medications can worsen your liver condition and prevent you from getting better.

The medication recommended by your doctor sounds dreadful for livers.
To treat systemic fungal disease Dr Cabot recommends Bacto Clear – 2 capsules with meals for a 2 bottle course and NAC – 2 capsules twice daily well away from food with a large glass of water to avoid stomach upset for the same length of time. We have also written a very informative article that offers an alternative treatment.

Too much bread is never great for anyone, try stick to no more than two slices a day.
You need to increase your amount of protein and fat.
Consume protein sources such as chicken, turkey, egg, yoghurt and cheese and fat sources such as almonds, walnuts, avocado, tuna, salmon, etc.
By combining protein and fat in the one meal it will keep you fuller longer and you won't feel as hungry.
Instead of having wholewheat bread, you should start using brown rice as it is also an excellent source of protein.
You should purchase our Synd X Slimming Protein Powder which is an excellent source of protein and makes a great afternoon snack.
This is 30% off at the moment via our Liver Doctor website.
You could also purchase Metabocel which is great for curbing hunger cravings, increasing energy and inhibiting fat production.

Jessah

This is very common and easily reversed with a diet free of sugar and high in vegetables. Good protein is essential from meat, eggs, cheese, poultry and fish.
I would recommend you take ‘Livatone Plus’ and ‘NAC’. These can be purchased from Liverdoctor.com.
You should reduce your drinking to one glass a day (100 mls) or just limit to 2 days a week. You should only have a drink if you go out to dinner or with friends. Wine is high in sugar.
Refer to my book ‘Fatty Liver: You can reverse it’, and there is a lot of information on liverdoctor.com.
You will also lose weight eating this way.
Kind Regards,
Jessah
