Liver Doctor magnesium contains several different types of magnesium for best absorption and utilisation. One of these is magnesium aspartate which is an excellent form of magnesium. Occasionally people become confused and think that aspartate is the same as aspartame which is a toxic artificial sweetener. This is NOT correct and it is completely different. We would never use the sweetener aspartamine in our products. Here are some important points -
  • Aspartate and aspartic acid are both abundant free amino acids in the human body
  • Aspartic acid is a free amino acid that can be converted back and forth into aspartate
  • The human body produces aspartic acid from oxaloacetate, which is an intermediate in the Krebs cycle (used for energy production)
  • The body can also produce aspartic acid from the amino acid ornithine in the Urea cycle
  • The body uses aspartate to produce glucose in the process of gluconeogenesis
