From 2016, the popular pain killers ibuprofen, diclofenac and naproxen will contain warning statements on their labels, advising consumers of an increased heart attack and stroke risk. Common brand names of these pain killers include Advil, Voltaren and Aleve. Most people consider them harmless because they are sold at the grocery store. This is far from the case, and, in fact, in the UK diclofenac has recently been made a prescription only drug. One off use is not a problem, but taking one of these drugs for just a few weeks can raise the risk of a fatal heart attack or stroke. These drugs are known as non-steroidal anti inflammatory agents. They are in the same category as the arthritis drug called Vioxx, which was found to double the risk of heart attacks and was responsible for causing 140,000 heart attacks in the USA. Pain killers are a godsend when they’re really needed. Problems occur if they are taken long term. Unfortunately, chronic pain is a major source of suffering for many people. I have found that it’s often possible to reduce the intensity of pain by working on lowering inflammation in the body. Here are some tips you may find helpful. Reference
