Case Study: Fatty Liver And Excessive Sweating
Suzanne is a patient I recently saw who had been feeling exhausted, hot and bothered. Her abdomen felt bloated almost constantly and she could not tolerate hot weather. Suzanne is 71 years old. She needs to lose approximately 20 pounds to reach a healthy weight and reduce her risk of serious diseases.
Suzanne is very bothered by how much she perspires. She lives in a warm and humid climate and by mid morning she is already sweating excessively. She sweats a lot on her head, which usually makes her hair look wet. Suzanne feels very embarrassed by this and it makes her reluctant to go out in public.
Her liver enzymes were abnormally high reflecting liver inflammation and her liver ultrasound showed a fatty liver. Suzanne felt extremely frustrated at not being able to lose weight despite not eating much. I told her the reason she could not lose weight was that her liver was inflamed and overworked.
Suzanne did not have a bad diet. She did not drink any alcohol and she did not drink soda. She tried to make her meals as healthy as possible, but snacking is what let her health down. Suzanne was retired but she did some paperwork for her daughter’s business. Suzanne often found this stressful and she coped by walking into the kitchen to find something to eat. The afternoons were her danger times. Aching knees and hips restricted the amount of exercise Suzanne could do.
My recommendations for my patient
- Despite living in a warm and sunny place, Suzanne was vitamin D deficient. This is because she rarely got sufficient sunshine. Vitamin D deficiency can make pain and inflammation worse. I gave her a vitamin D supplement. I also recommended Serrapeptase to reduce the amount of inflammation in Suzanne’s body. Inflammation can cause aches and pains as well as low mood.
- To repair the inflammation in her liver and clear the fat out, I prescribed Livatone Plus and N-Acetyl-Cysteine capsules. Once her liver is working efficiently Suzanne’s metabolic rate will improve and she’ll find weight loss much easier.
- Because she was post menopausal and carried excess weight on her torso, Suzanne was significantly insulin resistant. That meant she only had to look at carbohydrate and her liver already turned it into fat. Berberine is excellent for reversing insulin resistance, getting insulin down and enabling weight loss from the torso. It speeds up the results of a low carbohydrate diet.
- I asked Suzanne to eat 3 meals per day and try to avoid snacking. If she bases her meals on protein, natural fats and vegetables, Suzanne will feel far more satiated. This helps reduce sugar and carbohydrate cravings. Good sources of protein include meat, seafood, poultry, eggs and whey protein powder.
Suzanne followed my advice and after 4 months was in much better health. Her liver function was now normal and she had lost 14 pounds in weight. Importantly, she wasn’t sweating anywhere near as much anymore. Because her energy level was so much better and her joints no longer bothered her, Suzanne planned to begin an exercise routine to further improve her health.
