Research shows that curcumin (the active ingredient in turmeric) assists weight loss in people with insulin resistance and abdominal obesity. This is wonderful news because insulin resistance (also known as syndrome X) makes it especially hard to lose weight. People with insulin resistance tend to hold excess fat on their torso. They are at increased risk of developing polycystic ovarian syndrome and type 2 diabetes. The study was published in the journal European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences. 44 individuals were given curcumin for 30 days and their measurements and body composition were subsequently analysed. Results showed that curcumin significantly increased weight loss and reduced body fat levels, waist size, hip circumference and BMI. Curcumin also helps to improve insulin sensitivity, by lowering the amount of inflammation in the body. This is important because insulin is a fat storage hormone. If you have a lot of it circulating in your bloodstream it makes it very difficult to lose weight. If you are trying to lose weight, getting your insulin down is very important because insulin resistance plays a key role in obesity, fatty liver, type 2 diabetes and excess stubborn weight. By lowering inflammation, curcumin also helps to reduce aches and pains, ameliorate fatigue, and it is invaluable in the management of autoimmune disease. It helps to address the health problems that typically stand in the way of weight loss. Reference
