According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), in coming years people will be dying from common infections because antibiotics are losing their effectiveness. According to a report by Dr Keiji Fukuda, WHO’s Assistant Director-General for Health Security, "A post-antibiotic  era — in which common infections and minor injuries can kill — far from being an apocalyptic fantasy, is instead a very real possibility for the 21st century." He went on to say "Unless we take significant actions to improve efforts to prevent infections and also change how we produce, prescribe and use antibiotics, the world will lose more and more of these global public health goods and the implications will be devastating.” These are frightening words but more and more experts have voiced their fears recently about the impending doom of antibiotic failure. Bacteria are continually evolving and modifying their genetic material in an effort to survive. It would be very naive of us to think the drugs developed decades ago would still be effective in the future. Already, more and more people are developing difficult to treat antibiotic-resistant infections. It is time to take your immune health seriously. A healthy immune system is really your greatest asset. I have written about how to protect yourself from all types of viral infections in my book Bird Flu: Your Personal Survival Guide. Reference
