Serrapeptase
Serrapeptase is an enzyme that was first discovered in the intestine of silkworms. This enzyme is necessary in order for the silkworm to dissolve the hard cocoon it is surrounded by, when it is ready to emerge as a moth. The silkworm also uses this enzyme to allow it to feed on tough mulberry leaves. These days, serrapeptase supplements are not derived from silkworms; the enzyme is derived from a natural fermentation process. Serrapeptase is a protease enzyme; that means it has the ability to digest protein. Research has shown this remarkable enzyme can help to dissolve non-living tissue in the body such as cysts, swellings, plaque and scar tissue.
Serrapeptase helps to reduce inflammation in the body
Excessive inflammation is a feature of just about every disease and is present in any condition where pain, fatigue and fluid retention are present. But what causes inflammation? These are the most common causes:
- Elevated blood sugar. Certainly diabetics experience a great deal of inflammation in their bodies because of elevated blood sugar, but you don’t have to be a diabetic to experience this. Regularly consuming sugar, grains and high glycemic load foods will flood your bloodstream with glucose. Sugar is sticky and it can bind to proteins in your body and damage them.
- Infections. Any type of bacterial, viral, fungal or parasitic infection raises inflammation because your immune cells produce massive quantities of inflammatory chemicals as they try to fight the infection. This is particularly a problem in chronic, long term infections.
- Food allergy, intolerance and sensitivity. Whenever you consume a food you are sensitive to, your body behaves as though you swallowed something harmful, such as a virus or bacteria. As your immune system tries to cope with this scenario, it produces a host of inflammatory chemicals. This can become a significant problem if you unknowingly eat this food(s) every day.
- Stress. Unfortunately the hormones your body produces while you are stressed cause inflammatory damage, free radical damage and a great deal of wear and tear to your body. Magnesium helps to counter some of this damage.
- Lack of sleep or poor quality sleep. Good solid sleep is one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory remedies there is, and it’s free and feels great. Unfortunately most people know this but try as they might, they can’t get good sleep consistently. Insomnia or just poor quality sleep is endemic in modern society.
- Lack of antioxidants in your diet. All of the various conditions listed above cause your body to use up vitamins, minerals and antioxidants at a much faster rate. The problem is, most people don’t replenish their bodies with nutrients sufficiently. Ideally you would consume a raw vegetable salad for lunch and dinner each day and include a glass of raw vegetable juice most days of the week.
- Injuries, accidents and surgery are a major physical stress on the body and these processes all generate a great volume of inflammatory chemicals. These inflammatory chemicals are very useful in acute conditions and are necessary for the recovery process. Unfortunately many patients are left with chronic pain, swelling and immobility because the inflammatory process has continued for too long. Serrapeptase is excellent for these people.
How Serrapeptase can help
Ideally you could reduce the level of inflammation in your body by addressing each of the points mentioned above. Unfortunately, this is not always possible and sometimes the source of inflammation cannot be identified and remains hidden.
Serrapeptase basically works by giving your insides a good clean up. Being a protein digesting enzyme, it helps to clear out protein deposits that are not serving a useful purpose in your body. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-oedemic (reduces fluid retention) and fibrinolytic activity (helps to break down blood clots). It can help to clear mucus, fluid, blood clots, debris and immune complexes from your body. In this way it helps to reduce pain, improve mobility and increase energy. Serrapeptase helps to keep arteries clean and clear because it reduces the inflammation in arteries which is what promotes cholesterol accumulation and narrowing of the arteries.
How should Serrapeptase be taken?
Serrapeptase must be taken on an empty stomach in order to obtain the systemic anti-inflammatory benefits. If you consume it with a meal, your body will use it to digest the food in your intestines. Therefore most people find it easiest to take serrapeptase first thing in the morning. You can eat half an hour later. A typical starting dose is between 125 000 and 250 000 IU per day.
The above statements have not been evaluated by the FDA and are not intended to diagnose, treat or cure any disease.

My other dog is developing slight cataracts and has a few fatty cysts. Could this help them?
Serrapeptase is well indicated for your little dog, 1 capsule twice daily is probably sufficient.
The capsules are enteric coated so need to be swallowed whole.
These concerns are often seen in both people and animals with sugar dysregulation problems and we suggest you only offer your dear friend only raw high fat mince for his meals.

I have a torn meniscus in my knee joint, will serrapeptase help with healing, it has been difficult for me to get enough RICE since I use my legs at work alot.
Serrapeptase can clear your knee joint of inflammatory products to prepare for healing and we strongly recommend Collagen Food to boost the healing processes.
It is important to keep your knee strapped comfortably tight to avoid further damage from your knee’s present instability.

Fibroids are a very common sign of estrogen dominance or progesterone deficiency, which are the two ways to look at the same syndrome.
Rather than considering Serrapeptase, we strongly recommend you begin taking Bio Identical Progesterone every day.
A congested liver can have difficulty metabolizing spent estrogens whereby there is an artificially raised level circulating in the blood.
For best liver health Dr Cabot prescribes Livatone Plus, and Vitamin D.
You may have begun experiencing menopausal symptoms and for this you are very likely to benefit by beginning Femme Phase.

Although you are focusing on the scar tissue you are taking the Serrapeptase for, it may be working on other damage within your body.
Do you have any other health issues?
It is easier to resolve scar tissue if it has been softened with Vitamin E.

Dr Cabot’s book Healing Autoimmune Disease - A Plan to Help Your Immune System and Reduce Inflammation is highly recommended for you and to follow the diet and lifestyle protocol very closely to help with your multiple autoimmune conditions.
Many cases of Fibromyalgia are autoimmune, although a magnesium deficiency often presents as this condition, and is reversed with either magnesium powder or tablets.
It is often worse if you are also Vitamin D and Selenium deficient.

Serrapeptase can be taken for liver conditions, although you may find the protocol in the book we have recommended to you may resolve the problem very effectively.

I just have a quick question. My husband just started taking LiverDoctor Serrapeptase for a bit of a clean up. He's had many surgeries over the years (hip replacements from AVN, he's only 45 & most recently much needed scar tissue removal before we knew about Serrapeptase). Now that he's taking the supplement he is experiencing some joint soreness in his shoulder & a little back discomfort. Nothing major. We're just hoping this is a sign that's it's working on something. I've noticed in some of your other comments you've mentioned that taking vitamin E along with Serrapeptase would minimize side effects. Would you always recommend vitamin E with Serrapeptase and if so how much? Just 400 IU? Take at the same time or stagger? Thank you so much in advance for your diligent efforts to help us with our questions!
The discomfort your husband is experiencing may be that as the Serrapeptase removes the non-useful protein buildup it may be that the joints are be momentarily weakened by the loss and yet to replace it with beneficial collagen deposition.
We recommend he begin encouraging this with a diet that is high in protein to provide a ready source of collagen to help the replacement and Collagen Food to keep this collagen as healthy as possible.
Vitamin E has the ability to soften scar tissue to enable Serrapeptase to resolve redundant protein deposits more quickly. Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin and so is stored in the body for a considerable amount of time and 400iu a day is sufficient.
It does not have to be taken at the same time as the Serrapeptase.

I finally realized this is not a supplement to take forever because at some point it has done what it needed to do. I would say get off it for a period of time and then take it for a short time to clear any build up.
I had to do this because I ended up with severe muscle cramping like a charlie horse on several areas of the body. my body would just seize up. I also had a pain in the chest. All that stopped when I quit taking the Serrapeptase.
Your comments are most welcomed and we appreciate your sharing of your first hand experience with Serrapeptase.
We are concerned that even though it did provide appropriate reduction in your scar tissue that it did not help with pain and inflammation.
Please tell us what has caused your pain and inflammation so we can assist you further.

What do you recommend I take with it ?
Many aspects of Endometriosis are autoimmune in nature and tend to be triggered by inflammation, so our first recommendation is a liver, gut friendly program as is found in Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Plan.
Dr Cabot’s insightful book ‘Healing Autoimmune Disease – A Plan to Help Your Immune System and Reduce Inflammation’ is also highly recommended because having one autoimmune condition is often accompanied by others.
Vitamin E helps to soften scar tissue and make it easier for Serrapeptase to resolve the endometrial tissue and often associated scarring and adhesions that often accompany this condition.
Hormones are also very important and Endometriosis is an estrogen dominance expression so it is very important to ensure you are exposed to as few Xenoestrogens as possible and to take Progesterone every day to reduce the effect of the estrogens that are present.

Thank you for helpful support for everyone's health concerns. I have a macular pucker in one eye which is progressing. Drs don't know cause for the scarring which pulls the tissue causing distorted vision. Would serrapeptase be helpful and how much should be taken? Would serrapeptase help with meniscus injury? TY
Thank you for your kind words.
Serrapeptase would be expected to be beneficial to soften and resolve the scarring in your eye.
Although it is difficult to determine the cause of this condition, we recommend you keep your eye tissue as healthy as is possible by minimizing the chance of sugar irregularities by reducing all foods that might contribute to raised blood sugar. Begin with 1 capsule daily for a few days and increase to 1 capsule twice daily and increase to the therapeutic dose of 2 capsules twice daily with water and on an empty stomach.
Dr Cabot also prescribes NAC, Selenium and Vitamin A – 10,000iu daily.

We cannot make any comments about products that are not made by Sandra Cabot MD.
Serrapeptase is always produced with delayed release capsules because the enzyme is destroyed by stomach acid.
Another way to approach your problems is to reduce the inflammation that is leading to many of your concerns.
We recommend an anti-inflammatory diet as is found in Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Plan, https://www.liverdoctor.com/nac-n-acetyl-l-cysteine-600mg-90-capsules.html – empty 2 capsules and dissolve in water and take this dose twice daily, and Selenium – 1 capsule daily, and Vitamin C – 1000mg daily in divided doses.

Thank you for all your efforts to help.
I wasn’t able to find the post you are asking about to understand the context of the response.
Yes, anti-inflammatory nutrients significantly reduce the viscosity of the blood.
This enables the blood to flow more smoothly and easily in arteries and veins.
This may increase the risk of bruising and bleeding, so we recommend everyone ensures their blood vessels are strong and resilient, and Vitamin C is clearly indicted for this.

Cirrhosis indicates that your liver disease has been present for a considerable time.
Have doctors determined the nature of the four tumors that are present?
Ascites indicates that your liver is not able to produce sufficient albumin and this leads to serum seeping from the blood vessels and it collects in the abdominal cavity.
Has your name been placed to a liver transplant list?
It is most important to remove the liver damaging agent that caused the liver disease that has resulted in the cirrhosis.
Viral disease can be effectively treated now, and AA assists with alcohol abstinence.
Diets high in carbohydrate, damaged fats and/or processed food are becoming the most common cause for liver transplant due to cirrhosis and liver failure.
Adopting a low-inflammatory liver friendly plan like Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Program and begin taking Livatone Plus, NAC, and Vitamin C.
When symptoms have reduced you may then consider Serrapeptase and Vitamin E, although care is to be taken with any bleeding complications from the cirrhosis.

I am contemplating on taking serrapeptase. I have a few questions about this supplement.
1. I cannot swallow pills do you know of any reputable sellers that sell powder or liquid? If not can I open a veggie capsule and take the powder?
2. How do you prevent side effects? I am sure I read somewhere that side effects are caused by the break down of protein.
3. I want to start low how much should I take?
4. Acid Reflux has narrowed my esophagus pipe I believe it is scar tissue can I use serrapeptase to remove the scar tissue so I can swallow properly again? Or would that be dangerous?
Thank you
Regards
Damian
Serrapeptase comes in enteric coated capsules, which is necessary because it is destroyed by stomach acid.
Serrapeptase induces the breakdown of extraneous protein that the body deposits to protect areas of the body where high inflammation is causing damage.
It is best to begin with one capsule daily and gradually increase as your body can cope with it.
Acid reflux induced esophageal scarring can be helped with Serrapeptase although the use of Glutamine is very healing for the whole length of the digestive tract and we recommend you take one teaspoon in water a number of times daily and the most beneficial time is just before bed.

Uterine fibroids are often associated with higher than normal blood loss each month and there are far more absorbable forms of Iron than the one you have that do not tend to result in constipation.
The well absorbed forms are biglycinate, glycinate, or amino acid chelate.
Both NAC and Serrapeptase are to be taken away from food and your Iron can be taken with food.

Should 1 capsule of Serrapeptase be taken TOGETHER with 1 capsule of NAC OR should they be taken 30 mins - 1 hr apart? I suffer from fibroids so I know the NAC breaks down the biofilm layer that surrounds the fibroid so serrapeptase can eventually go in and do it's job by eradicating the fibroid altogether.
NAC is best taken 15 to 20 minutes before food with a large glass of water and Serrapeptase is to be taken on an empty stomach and also away from NAC.
Uterine fibroids tend to be associated with hormonal imbalance and it is best to address the cause as well as treat those that are already present.
Diet and supplementation is necessary, and Dr Cabot prescribes ‘I Can’t Lose Weight, and I Don’t Know Why’ or Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Program, Femme Phase, Progesterone, and Vitamin D.

I recently started taking to help with future pregnancy as I have mild adenomyosis (sp). I take as directed. I notice my feet now get very numb, and like falls asleep. Could this be from this supplement? Doctors have no clue never even heard of this supplement. (Go figure) according to what this is supposed to do I would think it could the the opposite? I also do not have any type of diabetes or pre diabetic
We agree that the numbing is counterintuitive when using Serrapeptase, we are wondering if the numbness goes away if you stop taking the supplement.
Serrapeptase may not be the best way to deal with Adenomyosis.
Research indicates that there are aspects of autoimmunity with this condition and may also represent an hormonal imbalance.
To normalize immune function we strongly recommend an anti-inflammatory, liver friendly diet so please begin Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Plan, because inflammation and liver congestion often lead to flares of autoimmunity and poor estrogen metabolism.
Supplements to clear the liver and improve phase 1 and 2 detox are Livatone Plus – 1 to 2 capsules twice daily, and NAC – 2 capsules twice daily with a large glass of water.
To further balance hormones, Dr Cabot prescribes Progesterone at double the labelled dose each day.
If you have sleeping problems, taking this at night may be highly beneficial.

Also, I read that serrapeptase works in your stomach and if you use coated serrapeptase, then it doesn't work in the stomach, but passes through and works in your intestines instead. Which should I use to get rid of dead cacer cells? Or should I alternate both to cover more areas?
Serrapeptase is indicated to help scavenge dead cancer cells and other metabolites that live cancer cells may be using to grow.
It is absorbed in the upper small intestine and travels to wherever it is needed to do its work.
Dr Cabot also prescribes Livatone Plus 2 capsules twice daily to boost liver function, additional NAC 1 capsule twice daily to raise glutathione and Super Vitamin K 1 capsule with each meal and good fats like avocado or olive oil included in the meal to reduce the cancer cells ability to replicate.
It is very important to have an extremely low sugar diet, because sugar in the blood promotes cancer growth. Remove all sugars, including fruit, grains and anything made from them, processed foods, sodas including those with artificial sweeteners. Keep your diet to minimal foods of animal protein, good fats and non starch vegetables.

I have an ileostomy since I was five years old from ulcerative colitis. I no longer have UC. I am 37 now. I was wondering is Serrapeptase would help with breaking down scar tissue adhesions in my abdomen (internally) from the multiple surgeries I have had growing up? I am not in any pain. I believe there may be adhesions located at the end of my Fallopian tubes (around the finger like hairs) not allowing the egg to enter the Fallopian tube. My tubes are open. Would this enzyme help in breaking down these adhesions? Also is it safe for someone with an ileostomy (and no large intestine) to take this product? Thank you.
Serrapeptase is most beneficial for those with exaggerated scar tissue formation like adhesions and would be expected to reduce the amount of adhesion protein associated with your Fallopian Tubes.
It is safe to take after major digestive surgeries as you have had.

Told I have 3 begin masses (cysts or fibro) in left breast and I’m anxious, will these help also anything else can help please? I’m still breastfeeding to 4 years old

Breast cysts or fibrotic breasts are often found in women from 35 to 50 and are usually benign.
It is important to keep breasts healthy and resolve any cysts that are present. Dr Cabot prescribes Breast Health Capsules.
Breast cysts often result from low progesterone, and/or high xenoestrogens in the environment.

My mum (79) has an inflammation in her body, and they have been searching for its reason for 1.5 years. They operated her to take out some of her lymph-nodes at the neck to analyze it but it just shows inflammation of unknown reason.
Now her liver seem to be okay, however it drops GOT, GPT, GGT enzymes into the blood not using them. My question is: could Serrapeptase help to reduce the inflammation in her body? Please guide us. Thanks a lot!
Kind regards,
Monika
Generalized inflammation is most often related to intestinal and liver problems.
If your mother has raised amounts of liver enzymes in her blood it is not because the liver doesn’t need them but rather that her liver cells are exploding and releasing them into her blood.
This is very often found when someone has a congested or Fatty Liver.
To reduce intestinal and/or liver congestion we first recommend Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Program.
After 3 months following this style of eating your mother’s inflammatory signs would be expected to be far lower.
Dr Cabot also prescribes Livatone Plus and Ox Bile.
Serrapeptase may be needed if she still has joint pain after 3 months.

I am in perimenopause, have an enlarged uterus with many fibroids, biggest 5cm, issues with excessive bleeding when on cycle, needing iron infusions to keep up with the low ferritin and blood loss. I have been on progesterone for about 8-10 months now, plus just trialing a very very small dose of estriol to get hormones balanced 0.5mg every other day. I found serrapeptase and started a low dose of 60,000IU, taken at bedtime or when I wake in the night. I tolerated that dose well so I doubled the dose. Everything was fine, this was probably started after a cycle by coincidence. The first cycle that came up, I had unusual cramping beforehand (like PMS, menstrual cramps but still not sure what was cramping - uterus, bladder, bowels - that carried on through the cycle and even after until I took a break from the serrapeptase. If I resumed the serrapeptase the cramps would return. There were many side benefits to the serrapeptase for body inflammation. I have tried to look into any relationship with serrapeptase and cramps and have come up empty. I feel like taking this on cycle when the fibroids are active and bleeding might have started this reaction but looking for some advice. If the fibroids are being attacked/shrunk is this expected reaction?
Thanks, S Mc
Your reaction to Serrapeptase may have been due to other components in the capsules, that we expect are another company’s product, so we cannot make any comment.
We are pleased to understand that you are using bio-identical progesterone, not a pharmaceutical progestogen.
Guard yourself against the damaging pollutants that mimic estrogen and are found in the environment in increasingly troubling amounts, and do all you can to reduce your exposure.
Ensure you are receiving 100mg daily from your progesterone treatment.
Heavy bleeding is often associated with a Vitamin K deficiency, and fish oil is a wonderful supplement to reduce period pain.
Kind regards

Serrapeptase is a proteolytic enzyme that can digest scar tissue and debris in the human body.
This may help in conditions such as arthritis, spurs, arterial plaque and excess scar tissue inside organs.
It can also help to soften scar tissue in organs and in tendons.
Because it is a natural substance, drug companies are unable to patent it and thus there are no large double blind clinical trials that have been done.

I have idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis since 2016, and I start serrapeptase 80000iu twice a day . Is it helpful to remove the scar from my lung?
And what do you recommend
Serrapeptase is valuable to reduce scar tissue in the lungs, and Vitamin E helps to soften scar tissue to make it easier to resolve.
Although your condition has no clear cause be aware that inflammation makes the situation worse and so we recommend an anti-inflammatory diet as is found with Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Program.
To boost lung health Dr Cabot prescribes NAC and Selenium.
