Things you must know if you don’t have a gallbladder
Removal of the gallbladder is one of the most common surgeries performed in the USA and Australia today. Gallstones are incredibly common and they occur in 10 to 15 percent of the population. The problem does tend to run in families. Women are more likely to experience gallbladder problems than men and this is partly due to the effects of the female hormone estrogen.
A gallbladder performs several important roles in your body:
- Enables fat digestion
- Enables absorption of fat soluble antioxidants and vitamins A, E, D and K
- Assists the removal of cholesterol from your body
- Assists the removal of toxins that have been broken down by the liver
What happens when you don’t have a gallbladder?
Your liver continues to manufacture bile, but there is no longer a place to store it or concentrate it. Therefore bile continually slowly trickles into the intestines. If you eat a fatty meal, you will not be able to secrete a large enough amount of bile into your intestines, therefore the fat will be poorly digested. This means many people experience diarrhea, bloating, nausea or indigestion. Not digesting fat well means you will not be able to digest essential fatty acids, including omega 3 and omega 6 fats. It also means you’ll have a hard time absorbing fat soluble vitamins such as vitamins D, E, A and K. A lot of the antioxidants in vegetables are fat soluble: lycopene, lutein and carotenoids are all fat soluble. If you don’t produce adequate bile, you will not be adequately absorbing these life saving compounds from foods. If you take any of the above mentioned nutrients in supplement form, without sufficient bile you will sadly not absorb them well. Some common symptoms of poor fat digestion are dry, brittle hair; dry skin and premature aging of the skin; weak nails and painful joints. Essential fatty acids are important for optimal brain health, therefore low mood, anxiety, depression and impaired cognitive function are all possible manifestations of poor fat digestion. How to have a healthy liver and good digestion without a gallbladder
First of all it’s important to realise that you developed a gallbladder problem in the first place because you had an unhealthy liver and a problem with your digestive system. If your liver is not healthy, it will make poor quality bile. The bile will be prone to forming sludge and stones. Just removing the gallbladder doesn’t solve that problem, and in fact sludge and stones can form within the liver, compromising its function. Here are some vital tips to follow:
- Keep your intake of dairy products and grains to a minimum or avoid them altogether. Dairy products (milk, cheese, ice-cream, yoghurt) worsen all cases of gallbladder disease, liver disease and they are very difficult to digest. Food intolerance is a common cause of gallbladder problems, and there is research that links gluten intolerance with gallstones. A good reason to keep your intake of grains low is to reduce the risk of developing a fatty liver. There is a great deal of helpful information in our book Save your Gallbladder, and what to do if you've already lost it.
- Take a good quality liver tonic such as Livatone. The herbs St Mary’s thistle, dandelion root and globe artichoke leaves all increase bile production and bile flow. Taurine is an amino acid necessary for bile production. This should help to make you feel more comfortable after a meal, and should reduce the risk of stones forming inside your liver.
- Take an ox bile supplement. This is the most important recommendation for people who have lost their gallbladder. A lack of bile can produce symptoms such as bloating and indigestion after meals, light colored stools, diarrhea, fatigue after meals and nutrient deficiencies. Taking a good quality ox bile supplement with each meal is wonderful for completely eliminating these symptoms in most individuals.
- Take a Digestive Enzymes supplement. The majority of people who developed a gallbladder problem have suffered with poor digestion for many years. If your stomach and intestines are not in optimal health, they will not send signals to your gallbladder, telling it to contract properly. Irritable bowel syndrome, dysbiosis, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and Candida overgrowth are common in people with a gallbladder problem. If you have had your gallbladder removed, you may continue to suffer symptoms due to those conditions. These digestive problems also cause insufficient digestive enzyme production. Taking digestive enzymes in supplement form helps to restore good digestive health and reduces symptoms of indigestion.
- Eat some good fats and avoid the bad fats. Your doctor may have recommended you follow a low fat diet after having your gallbladder removed. This is not necessary and in fact it is harmful. Your body desperately needs good fats and I recommend you include moderate quantities of extra virgin olive oil, avocados, coconut milk and oil, nuts and seeds in your diet.
- You may need a vitamin D3 supplement. People with compromised liver or digestive function are often vitamin D deficient. Exposure of your skin to the sun’s UVB rays enables your body to manufacture vitamin D. However, this process occurs in your liver and kidneys. People with a sluggish liver often do not manufacture vitamin D adequately. Therefore it’s a good idea to get a blood test and take a supplement. 5000 IU of vitamin D3 is a safe and effective dose for most people, but it’s best to be guided by your own doctor.
- Include some bitter and sour foods in your diet. They should help to improve your digestion and make it easier to tolerate good fats in your diet. Suitable bitter and sour foods include lemons, limes, radicchio lettuce, chicory, endive and dandelion leaves. These leaves are fairly easy to grow at home if you are lucky enough to have your own veggie patch.

You have identified a number of foods you avoid because of their IBS inducing effects.
It seems there is still something causing the digestive distress you are experiencing.
Most people with IBS have a disordered gut microbiota and this may be what is causing many of your symptoms and without the disinfectant action of bile your gut bugs may be running riot. A quality probiotic may assist.
Begin taking Ox Bile - 1 to 2 capsules with meals each day to provide the concentrated bile needed to help absorb good dietary fats and fat-soluble vitamins as well as providing a good environment in your lower bowel. It seems that you have had these conditions for a considerable time, and we expect you to benefit from Glutamine – begin with ¼ teaspoon at least twice daily away from food. Make the last dose daily just before bed 2 hours after dinner. Gradually increase dose to 1 teaspoon at each dose.
Do not ignore liver health and take 2 capsules Livatone Plus twice daily.

Although all these health concerns have occurred since Gallbladder removal, it is very unlikely that the surgery caused the other concerns.
Most people who have their Gallbladder removed also had congested livers with low function and this remains after the Gallbladder has gone.
Time has also lapsed, and your alcohol intolerance may be due to liver function gradually reducing.
We are very fortunate that the liver has an extraordinary ability to repair itself.
To increase the rate of liver healing we recommend an anti-inflammatory, liver friendly plan as is found with Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Program.
Processed foods are usually produced with low quality ingredients and hot chips are now usually cooked in highly inflammatory industrial seed oils so you may be most fortunate that you are unable to consume them.
Raised blood pressure is often a sign of a Magnesium deficiency, which can be reversed with either Magnesium powder or tablets- 200mg twice daily in/with water.
Most people are now Vitamin D deficient because if they choose to gain plenty of sunshine in summer it is accompanied by sunscreen which inhibits the production of this necessary pro-hormone vitamin.
Supplements to help the liver and improve fat absorption Ox Bile – 1 to 2 capsules during every meal, Livatone Plus – 2 capsules twice daily, NAC - 2 capsules twice daily, well away from food with a large glass of water to avoid temporary stomach irritation, and Vitamin D - 1 capsule daily until blood level is at least 100.

A hyperemic Gallbladder and it having a thickened wall are both indications of inflammation.
You have read my previous responses and it is up to you as to whether you are prepared to undertake the steps that have regularly shown that Gallbladder problems are not usually untreatable.
Adopting an anti-inflammatory diet, stop consuming any industrial seed oils, avoiding the poison of processed food items, drinking sufficient filtered water daily, and getting regular exercise is what is needed.
The usual supplements assist the reversal of Gallbladder disease so Ox Bile – 2 capsules during each meal, Livatone Plus – 2 capsules twice daily, and NAC - 2 capsules twice daily, well away from food with a large glass of water to avoid stomach irritation.
While you are not having any pain episodes the necessity for removal is not present and you may defer your surgery if you choose to.
If this is your choice have another ultrasound in 3 months to see the progress of this treatment protocol.

Having a clean diet and gastritis are contradictory. Are you taking any medication?
Poor fat metabolism often causes diarrhea after Gallbladder removal. Metamucil is often used to counter constipation, not diarrhea.
Begin a Ketogenic Diet with no dairy food included to reduce gastritis and Ox Bile – 1 to 2 capsules with each meal to enhance the absorption of good dietary fats and fat-soluble vitamins.
We recommend you have an ultrasound to determine your liver health and if it shows any concerns then consider Livatone Plus – 2 capsules twice daily.

Inflammation may have several causes, but mostly it begins with a diet that causes metabolic problems as it would have, because your Gallbladder was removed 7 years ago.
We recommend you begin an anti-inflammatory diet, and this is easily accomplished with Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Program.
As you no longer have a Gallbladder, it is most important to ensure you have a regular source of concentrated bile and 1 to 2 capsules of Ox Bile to supply a sufficient amount.

I was eating that way for years. Despite this, I ended up with my gallbladder removed two weeks ago. There is a very strong family history for me—including paternal grandfather almost dying due to his gallbladder and every female on my mother’s side having theirs removed.
I didn’t see you really mention the effects of female hormone cycles on scarring if the gallbladder. Can you elaborate on this?
Prior to mine being removed, I had no pain but persistent nausea for months. My diet was as you recommend. Nothing made the nausea better or worse. When the surgeon removed it, they found significant scarring and some calcification.
Now, two weeks post op, the nausea has returned. I have not had the dreaded diarrhea. Rather the opposite and have been constipated. I’ve even added some higher healthy fats back to my diet to see if that helps—it does not.
Id be interested to hear your thoughts and recommendations.
I have just sent you an email requesting a diet diary.
There can be a strong family history of eating in a particular way that may raise the incidence of Liver and Gallbladder dysfunction.
Female hormones do not cause scarring of the Gallbladder, although Gallstone formation often occurs during pregnancy.
Gallbladder scarring is seen with inflammation and/or infection of the Gallbladder.
Nausea is a symptom usually associated with liver disease. The calcification in your Gallbladder may have been an indication of infection, or the beginning of what may have developed into Porcelain Gallbladder.
As the nausea has returned, it indicates that your liver is still under functioning.
Constipation is often a sign of intestinal inflammation which may have been present before in a less obvious way.

I've removed my gallbladder before 7 months. After I could eat everything I gained fast a lot of weight. My body is unrecognizable. When I take ox bile taurine dandelion root or milk thistle I feel pain in my stomach. What should I do. I desperate to get my weight and health back
Please advise me

Needing to have your Gallbladder removed is a strong indicator that you also have liver concerns.
Please take the supplements separately to determine which one is causing the pain in your stomach.
To clear your liver, it is important to ensure that all processed foods are eliminated from your diet because they are usually loaded with sugars, toxic seed oils, gluten, dairy and far too much salt.
Your stomach may be a lot happier if you concentrate on good colored vegetables and salads accompanied with good quality protein.
When your stomach is more settled you may be able to tolerate Livatone Plus – 2 capsules twice daily, and perhaps 1 capsule of Ox Bile may be sufficient without causing digestive concerns.

Having gallbladder attacks for the second time. First time was after my second son was born and this time right before my third was born. I am exclusively breastfeeding and wondering what my options are in order to keep my gallbladder that are safe for my breastfeeding little one.
Gallstones are a very common side effect of pregnancy and please understand that they respond very well to diet and supplements.
To help keep your Gallbladder for life, begin a liver friendly anti-inflammatory plan as is found in Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Program.
Accompany it with Ox Bile – 1 to 2 capsules with meals, Livatone Plus – 2 capsules twice daily, and NAC - 2 capsules twice daily, well away from food with a large glass of water to avoid stomach irritation.

How do I know how much ox bile I need? I was recently taking 1 capsule of 500mg with lunch and dinner and I started to have the worst cramps and massive loose stool. I had my gallbladder removed 5 years ago and have bad digestion every since and even before, I was also told I have a fatty liver and I cannot absorb any fat, my brain is in need of fats. Can this be because maybe 500mg is too much bikes for me? I’ve always been constipated and with ox bikes I have diarrhea. I also have leaky gut
Your picture is quite confusing because we all need good fats for the whole body as well as the brain.
To get them absorbed the body needs concentrated Ox Bile when the Gallbladder has been removed.
Leaky gut indicates gut inflammation so there may be other things occurring.
It may be that your body requires less concentrated bile at the moment because it seems that 500mg at each meal is excessive.
Begin taking one capsule at the meal with the highest fat intake.
Your diet was likely to be the primary cause of you having your Gallbladder removed and it may still be causing many of the symptoms you are experiencing.
We suggest you undertake a course of Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse to see if your digestive system improves.

Gallstone formation is a common side effect of rapid weight loss, and they are very reversible.
You can immediately take the pressure off your Gallbladder to avoid having it ever being needed to be removed.
Immediately stop eating any processed food, grains, fruit and sweetened drinks or fruit juice.
Absolutely no seed oils or hydrogenated fats to be consumed.
Concentrate on protein and low starch vegetables.
Drink plenty of water to keep your liver hydrated.
Supplements then can begin to reverse your condition more quickly and we recommend you begin Ox Bile – 2 capsules with each meal, Livatone Plus – 2 capsules twice daily, and NAC - 2 capsules twice daily, well away from food with a large glass of water to avoid stomach irritation.
Keep in contact for further advice as you continue your health journey.

I had my GB removed 3 months ago due to Gallstone (after removal they observed low-grade dysplasia in it). I did have random diarrhea before the surgery but it got worse after. The pas week I have been having diarrhea almost every day. I am male 41 years, please let me know if anything serious is causing this and what should I do. Thanks in advance.
Many people experience increased loose bowels after their Gallbladder has been removed.
When the Gallbladder is lost you are no longer able to absorb good dietary fats and fat soluble vitamins because you no longer have a source of concentrated bile, so begin taking 1 to 2 capsules of Ox Bile during every meal.
After the Gallbladder is removed most patients are left with a congested liver, so please begin taking Livatone Plus – 2 capsules twice daily and NAC – 2 capsules twice daily, well away from food with a large glass of water to avoid stomach irritation.
We also recommend a liver friendly diet and lifestyle, as is found with Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Program.

Dr Cabot’s Gallbladder book has so much information to help you to keep your Gallbladder for the rest of your life if you are prepared to make changes to your diet and lifestyle.
It is easy for doctors to say that removing the Gallbladder is necessary, but it is a little naughty to say nothing needs to change after removal.
It is possible to take the pressure off your liver and Gallbladder straight away, by following the Stage 1 recipes in Dr Cabot's book 'I Cant Lose Weight, and I Don't Know Why' and adding important supplements.
Begin taking Ox Bile – 2 capsules during every meal, Livatone Plus – 2 capsules twice daily, and NAC – 2 capsules twice daily, well away from food with a large glass of water to avoid stomach irritation.

Gallbladder polyps are often found on routine Ultrasounds.
They are small at the moment and to keep them small and shrink them please begin Vitamin D – 1 capsule daily and Selenium – 1 capsule daily.
Excessive burping is often a symptom of Gallbladder problems and constipation is often a sign of poor digestion or poor bile production in your liver.
It is best to begin treatment by caring for your liver to increase bile production to improve the internal environment in your Gallbladder and thereby your whole digestive tract.
Take Livatone Liver Tonic – 2 capsules twice daily, NAC – 2 capsules twice daily, well away from food with a large glass of water to avoid stomach irritation, and Ox Bile – 1 to 2 capsules during each meal. For your liver’s sake it is best to avoid all processed food and high carbohydrate diets.

Dr operated not sure what he did but can remember him saying he removed my apex as was passing by it
Have lately been having same pressure pains and pain in right side were my gall bladder should be
Had scans done and am told the could not find my gall bladder
About 2 years ago had shopping trolley knock into my top of stomach and right hand side
Did knock me over as trolley hit a bolard and came back with force amwondering if my gall bladder could have been severed and is floating around and scan did not show it
Dr has given pantoptazole 40 mg am to return in 2 weeks
It may have been your appendix that he also removed as he passed by it all those years ago.
It is very likely that the doctor removed your Gallbladder to ease the pains you were experiencing back in your thirties, as if your gallbladder had been severed it would have decomposed and possibly caused a life threatening infection.
Pantoprazole may relieve your symptoms, but is best only taken for short periods of time.
As you do not have a Gallbladder it is difficult for you to absorb good fats from your diet and fat soluble vitamins and Dr Cabot recommends you begin Ox Bile – 1 to 2 capsules at each meal.

The problems you are experiencing now are perhaps a continuation of the processes that led to your Gallbladder having to be removed.
High carbohydrate foods, especially when accompanied with seed oils tend to be very inflammatory and may induce many of the symptoms you have at present. Many of these are indicative of pre or full-blown diabetes.
We suggest you begin a liver friendly, anti-inflammatory diet and lifestyle as is found with Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Program.
Dry skin, patches on skin and premature grey hair may be associated with autoimmune conditions and to reverse your present concerns we recommend Livatone Plus – 2 capsules twice daily, Thyroid Health Capsules – 1 capsule twice daily, and Glicemic Balance – 1 to 2 capsules 10 to 15 minutes before meals.

I do try to eat well. So well that people insinuate that I have an eating disorder when I refuse to eat bread, pasta, sugar, fast food..etc. Or they tell me that’s why I never feel well, my lack of processed foods. Because of the hypoglycemic episodes (it’s like reactive hypoglycemia) my doctor told me to eat twice as much protein as carbs, which I do most of the time and it has helped the low blood sugar scares. I haven’t had an episode in years, although occasionally I feel a little shaky but I know what to eat to fix it before it turns into that shaking, sweating profusely through my clothes and not being able to speak or even think correctly, I am 5’1 and I weigh 111, I am not overweight. I eat well most of the time with occasionally small treats.
But my question/concern…I recently started taking ox bile (1.5 weeks) and it sometimes seems to intensify my acid reflux. Like regurgitation of stomach acid or bile. This kind of happens already, up into my sinuses and burns, gives me a headache, sometimes dizzy like I have fluid in my ears, but it’s severely worse at times when I take ox bile.
Can you help with any of this? Or explain why this happens, what I can do? What kind of doctor will help me? Any info would be a great help! Thank you!
Your post indicates you have glucose dysregulation which means that sugars and starches are your enemies.
The doctor that suggested more protein and fewer carbs was right on the target and if you follow his advice and remove all processed foods from your diet your reactive hypoglycemia may never return.
You may be vitamin/mineral deficient and a reputable replacement may be beneficial.
We can only speak for Dr Cabot’s high quality Ox Bile and we have not had any notifications of similar reactions.
It is to be taken during meals, especially when there is fatty foods present. Why have you chosen to begin taking Ox Bile?
Anemia may be due to heavy periods but we find it more common when there is poor absorption from the digestive tract from inflammatory food consumption, and many women are progesterone deficiency which causes heavy periods.
Many people consume insufficient iron rich foods, which can be another contributing factor.
If you are wanting assistance with your glucose irregularities it is an endocrinologist to be consulted, if it is your digestive tract and liver then a gastroenterologist is called for.

We are making no claims that need researching, we are saying that the Gallbladder performs very specific duties to keep the body functioning well and efficiently.
When the Gallbladder is removed the ability of the body to biologically concentrate the bile made in the liver is lost, and this seriously reduces many bodily functions.
Dr Cabot’s Ox Bile 1 to 2 capsules taken with each meal replicate what your Gallbladder was designed to do.

I am 29 now and had my gallbladder removed at 15 after having pancreatitis and gallstones. I was told I would not have any issues but my digestion has never been good since (although I struggle to fully remember what it was like before so in some ways it feels normal).
I have always had bloating, indigestion, fatigue, trouble with certain foods. In recent years i have developed extremely dry skin, loss of hair, hormone imbalances and joint pain.
Even more recently I have had real trouble with breathing and bloating and following and endoscopy have discovered there is bile in my stomach while is causing inflammation and severe GERD like symptoms.
I had already decided to start digestive enzymes and pure strength cbd oil. I also take NAC, sea moss, and vitamin c/d and tend to follow a more anti inflammatory diet with minimal dairy and gluten.
I have looked into ox bile but I am unsure if it would be good considering I have excess bile leaking into my stomach. I do not think I am digesting fats properly but don't want to make the problem worse.
Is there anything you can suggest?
Thank you
Your health concerns are considerable and having bile in your stomach is indicating that your metabolism is not working correctly.
The digestive tract is meant to be a one way unit and this indicates that dilute bile from your liver has travelled upstream to your stomach, which is quite unusual.
Very often GERD occurs because there is insufficient acid in the stomach to relax protein fibers so the digestive enzymes can work.
Anyone who has had their Gallbladder removed requires Ox Bile - 1 to 2 capsules during each meal as a source of concentrated bile for the absorption of good dietary fats and fat soluble vitamins.
A true anti-inflammatory diet contains no gluten or dairy and we recommend Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Program to combine a beneficial diet and supplements to tone the liver, alkalize the body and heal the gut.

It is important to establish a concentrated bile supply with Ox Bile - 1 to 2 capsules with meals.
It may be that if you have never had a Gallbladder that you may have had problems also absorbing fat soluble vitamins from childhood.
You are also very likely to have a disordered intestinal microbiome.
Severe constipation is often associated with a yeast overgrowth, so if you get thrush when you take a course of antibiotics it is often candida that is responsible.
Dry flaking skin and hair thinning is not restricted to, but it often seen when there is the thyroid is underactive.
Thinning hair is also often seen after menopause, as is osteoporosis.
To improve bone strength, it is essential to have a high blood level of Vitamin D and sufficient Vitamin K to direct the calcium back into the bones.
If you have been taking medication for stomach acid, they are well known for inducing osteoporosis.

There are many factors that can contribute to constipation and Gallbladder removal is among them.
Magnesium deficiency, Fiber insufficiency and dehydration are also well-known things to consider and we are pleased to read that you are ensuring you keep well hydrated.
Magnesium powder or tablets with a daily amount of at least 400mg elemental magnesium daily in divided doses to ensure best possible peristaltic action of digestive muscles.
Ox Bile is needed at each meal, not only to ease constipation, but to maximize absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids from your diet.
Although your doctor has offered you a low carb, protein, and fat diet, it may still be inflammatory and intensifying the constipation.
We suggest Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Program in conjunction with the recommended supplements.

I had my gallbladder removed at the age of 20. I didn’t have gall stones or sludge my gallbladder simply quit functioning. When they went to remove it they found that my liver was wrapped around my gallbladder and my bile ducts were so small they couldn’t explore them to make sure there weren’t any gall stones. Everything I read talks about gall stones and not about the gallbladder simply failing. I didn’t have a fatty liver or any issues associated with my liver. Anyway, what I want to know is would the Ox Bile help me? I’m a skeptic and like to read facts not fiction. I’m not saying what you have said is fiction. You just can’t believe everything you read online and I don’t want to take something that could be harmful to my health. What are some resources for me to read? I just want to feel like myself again.
Thanks for your time
Bile is one of the most amazing liquids the body makes and utilizes. The abstract is offered to show how an inability to make bile because of a genetic problem has significant implications.
As an adult, the effects are not as obvious but are identical.
Essential fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins are poorly absorbed.
Clearance of metabolic by-products and spent cholesterol is lowered which puts additional stress on the Liver.
Bile is also important for the maintenance of a healthy intestinal microbiome and effective stool passing with regularity.

Chronic diarrhea after gallbladder removal is usually due to poor absorption of fats which results in a loose stool.
We are not understanding BAM because you are no longer to produce concentrated bile after the loss of your Gallbladder so it is poor fat and fat-soluble vitamin absorption that we see as your concern.
Ox Bile is highly recommended to improve absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and EFAs, as they are essential for your body’s metabolism.

Thank you for such a brilliant article. I'm convinced my huge gallbladder stone (3.2cm) is the reason for my hair loss. I've suspected this all along.
Do you feel that the introduction of bile salts and digestive enzymes could possibly break up/reduce in size my stone so I can eventually pass it? Have you ever heard of this happening? I desperately do not want my gallbladder removed.
Also, when it is suggested that ox bile is taken with every meal, when exactly should this be please?
Literally moments before the first bite or certain minutes beforehand etc?
Thank you so much for your help
We thank you for your appreciation of this article.
Dr Cabot has had many experiences where Gallstones have been reduced in size and passed, so from one to many gallstones to none at all.
Ox Bile is essential after Gallbladder removal to help improve bile quality to improve detoxification and fat absorption.
Other aspects of lifestyle also need to be addressed to improve liver health and function. An anti-inflammatory, liver friendly plan like Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Program and supplementation with Livatone Plus and NAC are also necessary to hasten the process of shrinking and removing your Gallstone.
Ox Bile is best to be taken after the meal has been started, and before the meal has been half eaten.

Biliary dyskinesia when there is no other obvious cause, like gallstones being present, and you are eating enough fat to exercise your Gallbladder it may be that you have Vagus nerve neuropathy.
Do you also have slow stomach emptying?
There are a number of strategies to promote better Vagus nerve function if this is the problem.
Herpes viruses are known to be associated with dysfunction of many cranial nerves, including the vagus nerve.
How much Magnesium are you taking daily?
130gms of fat daily releases about 1200kjs which we expect to yield sufficient energy in the form of ketone bodies.
The problem may be that 50gms of net carbohydrates is very likely to be sufficient to reduce the formation of ketone bodies and your body may attempting to do the work that is necessary on your farm on the carbohydrate derived glucose you are producing.
To convert to fat burning it is necessary to reduce carbohydrates considerably.
To support your Gallbladder it is necessary to support liver health and function and Dr Cabot prescribes Magnesium Ultrapotent, 400 to 800mg daily in divided doses, Livatone Plus - 2 capsules twice daily, and NAC - 2 capsules twice daily with a large glass of water to avoid gastric distress.

Although you have been asymptomatic until recently there are problems that are unavoidable after the gallbladder is removed.
It becomes far more difficult to remove liver detox products from the liver which can raise the body’s inflammatory level quite significantly.
The fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K all need to be emulsified by concentrated bile, so you may be deficient in these valuable nutrients.
Most people who develop Gallbladder problems had a congested or fatty liver beforehand.
Your symptoms are very indicative of liver disease. Dr Cabot prescribes Ox Bile, Livatone Plus, and NAC.

I had my gallbladder taken out Sept 2021. Since then I noticed that my hair has become oiler and skin. My hair is naturally incredibly dry before surgery, I also noticed breakouts/acne on forehead/jawline. I’ve never dealt with those issues prior to surgery. I was wondering if you know of why this happens post surgery and what could be done to help eliminate it? I had a ejection rate of 98%. I was told that I shouldnt take ox bile if diarrhea was a symptom after surgery which it was… any thoughts or advice on what to do would help so much! Only 26 years old I want to make sure I do what I should to retain a healthy lifestyle!
Gallbladder problems are often associated with liver congestion and although your Gallbladder has now gone you are likely to still have liver concerns.
Oily hair and skin, and increased breakouts/acne are signs of raised testosterone.
Although these symptoms have arisen since your Gallbladder has been removed, the reason is not clear, but by returning your liver to best possible health is likely to reverse them and improve your overall health considerably.
Please consider Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Program as an effective way to adopt a health restoring dietary style.
Supplements can make the healing quicker and Dr Cabot prescribes Livatone Plus and Berberine.
The reason you may have loose stool is because you are not absorbing your good dietary fats because of no bile to help emulsify and absorb them, and a concentrated supply of Ox Bile may reverse this problem. Begin with 1 capsule during each meal until your digestive system has adjusted to it and then increase to 2 capsules.

People often adjust to a given situation and without remembering what their system was like before the change.
If your stool is of a regular consistency with no urgency or mal odor your system may have adjusted to no longer having a concentrated bile source.
Do you have any digestive concerns?
Do you have any skin concerns?
Do you have cholesterol problems?
To be sure you may ask your doctor to test the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K.
If these are all high in range then Ox Bile may be unnecessary.

Also My T bili test came back 2.71mg
Is this a little high do you nit having a gallbladder??? Otherwise, I feel fine and bowel movements are normal daily. Thank you!
Most people who develop Gallstones have liver congestion and this may explain the high T bilirubin.
When the Gallbladder is removed there is serious reduction in the amount of essential fats and fat soluble vitamins that can be absorbed into the body from the digestive tract and this may explain your dry, straw like hair.
You can begin to heal your liver with Livatone Plus and NAC and provide your body with concentrated Ox Bile to help absorb valuable fat soluble nutrients.

Does this include butter, ghee, cream, and what about goat cheeses?
Thank you so much.
Butter has very little milk solids, and ghee has none at all so both of these are considered to be well tolerated by the digestive tract and liver of most people.
Cream has quite a bit of other dairy components other than the 35 to 40% fat, so best avoided or only for very special occasions.
Many people cope well with goat and sheep products and they may have different protein forms to make them less inflammatory.
Understanding that you no longer have a Gallbladder your ability to digest good dietary fats and fat soluble vitamins is compromised and Dr Cabot prescribes Ox Bile.

I am 34 years old women and I had my gallbladder taken out last year in December 2020. Since then I have nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. I also developed brain fog and tremor that will not go away. Never been in the ER as much as I been these past 7 months. My doctor did every test in the world and everything looks normal. I also have right upper quadrant pain. They took my gallbladder out because I had a polyp. The hida scam showed normal ejection fraction. I was very active working out 6 times a week and had a lot of energy. Now I don’t have energy to get up to play with my 4 year old boy which is not me at all. I eat very healthy ( no fried goods) and most of my groceries are organic. This is my worst nightmare. Do you have any suggestions for supplements? I took ox bile but I get more diarrhea. I am desperate to get my life back. Also, one month ago they diagnosed me with fatty liver and I start taking the livatone plus and just a couple days ago they did the fibro scan and said that my liver is back to normal but my naseau and diarrhea remains. Thank you so much
It is difficult to offer advice when all your tests have returned normal.
The symptoms you have had since surgery are typical, and Ox Bile can induce diarrhea if too much is taken.
Fatty Liver is certainly a reversible liver disease and as you begin to improve liver health and function your energy may begin to return.
Remove all damaged, heated or hydrogenated fats from your diet.
An anti-inflammatory, liver friendly diet is important and we recommend Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Program.
To encourage faster healing of your liver Dr Cabot prescribes Livatone Plus and NAC.
Unremitting diarrhea often indicates a poor microbiome status, and for this we suggest you begin taking Floratone to encourage more beneficial species.
Once your diarrhea subsides we encourage you to begin taking 1 capsule of Ox Bile with each meal to replace the bile you can no longer have supplied from your Gallbladder to ensure the absorption of necessary good dietary fats and fat soluble vitamins.

The diarrhea may remain for a short time as your body adjusts to again having a source of concentrated bile.
This is expected to pass and many take 2 capsules with each meal without ill effects.

Most people who have had their gallbladder removed have liver congestion or a Fatty Liver so now that you don’t have a gallbladder it is important to have your liver able to make a premium amount of bile yourself.
Unfortunately, you no longer have the ability to concentrate this bile to maximize the absorption of important and necessary dietary fats and fat soluble vitamins.
There are no supplements that can induce bile concentration and dilute bile does not emulsify the fat components of your diet and supplementation very well at all.
You may be able to obtain fat soluble vitamin injections as a means to ensure you do not become deficient as they are so very important for health and wellbeing.

I had my gallbladder out over 30 years ago so this took me by surprise because I never had much effect.
I do know that recently my cholesterol levels have been elevated - borderline where my Dr wanted me to consider starting medication. I've also had weight gain that I can't get rid of. I thought it was thyroid related since I have Hashimotos but my thyroid levels are under control.
My pain in my ribcage is significantly improved with taking the ox bile / enzymes / bitters. Any other tips?
We are pleased that your research led you to the need for bile replacement after gallbladder removal.
Although your thyroid levels are being monitored and under control by your doctor, we are letting you know that with appropriate natural interventions, you may have your thyroid antibodies lowered to a level where they are not significantly affecting your thyroid function and you may even be able to reduce the amount of medication required.
Dr Cabot has written two books that would be of benefit to you, Your Thyroid Problems Solved, and Healing Autoimmune Disease – A plan to help your immune system and reduce inflammation.
Dietary changes are necessary and we recommend Dr Cabot’s 15 Day cleanse and Maintenance Program to reverse your symptoms and boost weight loss.
Supplementation is necessary and Dr Cabot prescribes Thyroid Health Capsules, Berberine, Livatone Plus andhttps://www.liverdoctor.com/n-acetyl-cysteine-nac-a-powerful-health-aid/.

Gallbladder dysfunction is usually an indication of a congested liver or Fatty Liver disease.
When the gallbladder is removed the potential for liver problems still remain.
Digestive enzymes are beneficial for best nutrient digestion, but it is unlikely to have sufficient bile to replace what is needed for appropriate fat soluble and good fats absorption after every meal.
Dietary regimen is important and we recommend Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Program for a good life long dietary style.
To supply sufficient concentrated Ox Bile 1 – 2 capsules in the middle of each meal every day, and to boost liver health Dr Cabot prescribes Livatone Plus 2 capsules twice daily and NAC 2 capsules twice daily with a large glass of water.
Psoriasis is an autoimmune condition, and we strongly recommend you obtain a copy of Dr Cabot's most valuable book Healing Autoimmune Disease – A plan to help your immune system and reduce inflammation.

I had my gallbladder removed two years ago I was always extremely healthy and active prior I have now gained 50 pounds and I know it was due to bad diet but I am not wanting to get back on track and lose the weight but I'm curious if I should be taking supplements to help me when losing the weight but also for when I'm eating to properly digest the fat.
When the Gallbladder is removed there is usually underlying poor liver function and this is when Livatone Plus and NAC are called for.
Dr Cabot has a number of supplements to assist weight loss efforts, especially Berberine and Glicemic Balance.
When you are ready to begin the journey towards weight loss, we recommend you follow Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Program until you are back to a weight that is liver and heart healthy.
Without a Gallbladder it is almost impossible to absorb the good dietary fats that we recommend you have every day, so Dr Cabot prescribes Ox Bile 1 – 2 capsules with every meal.

Your itching may indicate a Fatty or congested liver.
Your supplements were well indicated but most people who have their Gallbladder removed have pre-existing liver congestion or disease.
Undertaking a gluten and dairy free diet is commendable for gut health but these GF products are usually high in high GI starches that are very easily broken down into sugar and may be processed into fats that are often stored in the liver.
This reduces the ability of the liver to detoxify toxins and they are then sent to the skin to be released and they are often quite acid and irritates the skin, resulting in an itchy tingling sensation.
We suggest you begin Dr Cabot’s 15 Day Cleanse and Maintenance Program until the sensations have gone.

Once the Gallbladder has been removed concentrated bile can no longer be delivered to the small intestines.
Bile is essential to emulsify fats and fat soluble vitamins so they can be absorbed into the body.
Digestive enzymes are required if your stomach is no longer producing sufficient amounts to help digest your food.
Both are to be taken at every meal.
When people are not producing sufficient digestive enzymes it is often the case that low stomach acid is also part of the problem, and Dr Cabot prescribes Betaine Hydrochloride.

Dr Cabot’s Super Digestive Enzymes contains some Ox Bile but not sufficient for anyone who no longer has a Gallbladder so the additional supplement is beneficial.
They are both to be taken in the middle of a meal.
Most people who have had their gallbladder removed have an underlying liver problem and Dr Cabot prescribes a low carb diet, Livatone Plus and NAC.
Do you have any symptoms of low stomach acid, which is often the cause of reflux or heart burn. We ask this because when digestive enzymes are needed there is often underlying low stomach acid.

There are many reasons why your skin might be very dry, insufficient good fats every day, Vitamin A deficiency, or perhaps an underactive thyroid and it is important to avoid harsh soaps and keep your skin moisturized.
As you have lost your gallbladder you may be deficient in the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. You are able to get all of them except for Vitamin A in Super Vitamin K – 1 capsule daily. Ox bile – 1 capsule with each meal is needed to ensure you have sufficient ability to emulsify good dietary fats and these most valuable vitamins. You may also benefit from our high quality multi vitamin/mineral capsules to bolster your health and boost the quality of your breast milk. Digestive Enzymes will ensure optimal digestion of your food and good nutrient density of your milk.
Livatone Plus has not been researched for any concerns in babies and we suggest that you wait till baby is older before introducing this supplement.
Ensure you obtain good dietary fats every day to reduce skin dryness.

Good fats are important dietary nutrients as they supply fat soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids.
Ox Bile is very important to help with the digestion and absorption of these important nutrients after the Gallbladder has been removed.
It is important to take while breastfeeding for sufficient amounts of these nutrients to be made available in your breast milk. Take 1 to 2 capsules with each meal.
People with a history of gallstones, whether their gallbladder has been removed or not, tend to have liver concerns and we recommend you begin Livatone Plus as soon as your baby is weaned to return your liver to best possible health and function.

It is not likely to directly be your lack of a gallbladder that has caused the recent occurrence of diarrhea.
The more likely explanations may be increased stress, illness that has changed your gut flora or the introduction of parasites, or dietary changes that include more fats than previously.
For increased stress we recommend Magnesium Ultrapotent or Magnesium Complete.
If there are suspected changes to gut flora and bloating as well as diarrhea we strongly recommend BactoClear – 2 capsules twice daily for two bottles, followed by Ultimate Gut Health – 1 scoop just before bed every night. It may well be that the urgent bowel movements are steatorrhea or high fat stool, which tend to have a shiny appearance and float in the toilet bowl and this stool responds extremely well to 1 – 2 Capsules of Ox Bile with every meal. This is a supplement you would have been advantaged by taking for the last 48 years since your Gallbladder was removed.
It is important to ensure your change of bowel habits is innocent and we recommend you have an fecal occult blood test and a colonoscopy as soon as possible.

You have made a very good choice of supplements to potentiate the digestion and absorption of your daily food intake.
After gallbladder removal it is important to take a form of concentrated bile to ensure absorption of dietary fats and fat-soluble vitamins.
As you are taking Super Digestive Enzymes that has an amount of ox bile included you are advised that you may only require one capsule Ox Bile with each meal.
Livatone Plus may return your liver to its best possible function and bile production, but you can no longer concentrate the bile for best fat absorption.

Since mct oil has good benefits.
Everyone without a Gallbladder needs bile supplementation and Dr Cabot prescribes 1 to 2 capsules Ox Bile whenever fats are consumed.
MCT oil is very easily absorbed and because of its low molecular density is absorbed even with little concentrated bile available in the digestive tract.

Ketogenic or less stringent low carbohydrate diets very effectively reduce the intensity of autoimmune conditions, including Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.
Autoimmunity often results in intestinal inflammation and poor nutrient absorption, which may have been the cause of your previous case of anemia.
To reduce the joint inflammation and assist in weight loss we are delighted to let you know that Dr Cabot’s highly acclaimed 15 Day Cleanse is available and provides you with two weeks to begin your journey toward improved overall health and function, utilising both supplements and a tasty, easy to prepare dietary regimen. This is an anti-inflammatory program and the supplements are immune boosting, body alkalinising and gut healing.https://www.liverdoctor.com/15-day-cleanse.html
After completing the Cleanse, we recommend you remain on this style of eating and you can then begin the Maintenance Program.https://www.liverdoctor.com/dr-cabot-ultimate-maintenance-plan.html
Berberine very effectively reduces blood sugar levels and cholesterol levels, so may be a valuable accompanying supplement while undertaking a 15 Day Cleanse and then Maintenance Program.
These strategies usually result in best possible liver health and function, which makes the path through menopause far easier.

This isn't a normal side effect.
I would suggest that you stop taking it for a few days until your symptoms go away.
You can try having half a capsule with food to begin with and see how you go with that before increasing the dose.
If symptoms persist you might be intolerant to one of the ingredients.
As you have both supplements try taking the Livatone for a few days and not the Livatone Plus and see if you have any symptoms.
Kind regards,
Louise
34 Male here, had my gallbladder removed 8 months ago, now back to doing sports, eating normally, but I see a difference in my skin (face) and hair. The right side of my face seems red, inflamed like, and my hair looks somewhat dry and brittle.. Is there a way to address this?
Following gallbladder removal it is not uncommon to develop deficiencies in fat-soluble vitamins (A,E,D & K). Deficiency of vitamins A and E aswell as omega 3's could be contributing to the issues you mentioned.
We would suggest supplementing with Ox bile at each meal to assist with fat digestion and absorption.https://www.liverdoctor.com/ox-bile-500mg-100-capsules.html
You may also benefit from fish oil to improve the appearance of your skin and hair.https://www.liverdoctor.com/fish-oil-epa-dha.html
supporting your liver function is also important as it is now bearing a larger load. Skin inflammation can be a sign of a sluggish liver. The Livatone Plus capsules offer great liver support:https://www.liverdoctor.com/livatone-plus.html
