Serrapeptase
Serrapeptase is an enzyme that was first discovered in the intestine of silkworms. This enzyme is necessary in order for the silkworm to dissolve the hard cocoon it is surrounded by, when it is ready to emerge as a moth. The silkworm also uses this enzyme to allow it to feed on tough mulberry leaves. These days, serrapeptase supplements are not derived from silkworms; the enzyme is derived from a natural fermentation process. Serrapeptase is a protease enzyme; that means it has the ability to digest protein. Research has shown this remarkable enzyme can help to dissolve non-living tissue in the body such as cysts, swellings, plaque and scar tissue.
Serrapeptase helps to reduce inflammation in the body
Excessive inflammation is a feature of just about every disease and is present in any condition where pain, fatigue and fluid retention are present. But what causes inflammation? These are the most common causes:
- Elevated blood sugar. Certainly diabetics experience a great deal of inflammation in their bodies because of elevated blood sugar, but you don’t have to be a diabetic to experience this. Regularly consuming sugar, grains and high glycemic load foods will flood your bloodstream with glucose. Sugar is sticky and it can bind to proteins in your body and damage them.
- Infections. Any type of bacterial, viral, fungal or parasitic infection raises inflammation because your immune cells produce massive quantities of inflammatory chemicals as they try to fight the infection. This is particularly a problem in chronic, long term infections.
- Food allergy, intolerance and sensitivity. Whenever you consume a food you are sensitive to, your body behaves as though you swallowed something harmful, such as a virus or bacteria. As your immune system tries to cope with this scenario, it produces a host of inflammatory chemicals. This can become a significant problem if you unknowingly eat this food(s) every day.
- Stress. Unfortunately the hormones your body produces while you are stressed cause inflammatory damage, free radical damage and a great deal of wear and tear to your body. Magnesium helps to counter some of this damage.
- Lack of sleep or poor quality sleep. Good solid sleep is one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory remedies there is, and it’s free and feels great. Unfortunately most people know this but try as they might, they can’t get good sleep consistently. Insomnia or just poor quality sleep is endemic in modern society.
- Lack of antioxidants in your diet. All of the various conditions listed above cause your body to use up vitamins, minerals and antioxidants at a much faster rate. The problem is, most people don’t replenish their bodies with nutrients sufficiently. Ideally you would consume a raw vegetable salad for lunch and dinner each day and include a glass of raw vegetable juice most days of the week.
- Injuries, accidents and surgery are a major physical stress on the body and these processes all generate a great volume of inflammatory chemicals. These inflammatory chemicals are very useful in acute conditions and are necessary for the recovery process. Unfortunately many patients are left with chronic pain, swelling and immobility because the inflammatory process has continued for too long. Serrapeptase is excellent for these people.
How Serrapeptase can help
Ideally you could reduce the level of inflammation in your body by addressing each of the points mentioned above. Unfortunately, this is not always possible and sometimes the source of inflammation cannot be identified and remains hidden.
Serrapeptase basically works by giving your insides a good clean up. Being a protein digesting enzyme, it helps to clear out protein deposits that are not serving a useful purpose in your body. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-oedemic (reduces fluid retention) and fibrinolytic activity (helps to break down blood clots). It can help to clear mucus, fluid, blood clots, debris and immune complexes from your body. In this way it helps to reduce pain, improve mobility and increase energy. Serrapeptase helps to keep arteries clean and clear because it reduces the inflammation in arteries which is what promotes cholesterol accumulation and narrowing of the arteries.
How should Serrapeptase be taken?
Serrapeptase must be taken on an empty stomach in order to obtain the systemic anti-inflammatory benefits. If you consume it with a meal, your body will use it to digest the food in your intestines. Therefore most people find it easiest to take serrapeptase first thing in the morning. You can eat half an hour later. A typical starting dose is between 125 000 and 250 000 IU per day.
The above statements have not been evaluated by the FDA and are not intended to diagnose, treat or cure any disease.

I hope you're well! I have a question regarding serrapeptase please; I am unable to swallow capsules or tablets and I'm wondering if I will receive any benefit at all if I was to empty the capsule into some liquid and drink the liquid down. I know it is suppose to stay coated through the stomach but I cannot think of any other way and really want the benefit of serrapeptase.
Thanks so much for your time. Warmest regards.
Yes, you should certainly still experience the benefits of serrapeptase. We have several customers who do this.

I’ve had keloids on my shoulders chest and back for the past 4 years. I purchased Serrapeptase 40,000 SPU and I’m currently taking one pill in the morning and one at night. Is it too much/not enough? Also, is it okay for me to take it along with other medication such as Thyrofix (thyroid) and birth control pill?
Thanks
The dose you are taking is appropriate and serrapeptase is fine with your medication.

It’s fine to drink tea with serrapeptase. Serrapeptase is a protein-digesting enzyme, so it’s best not to have protein-containing foods in your stomach while taking it.
If you take serrapeptase capsules on an empty stomach, they will be absorbed after roughly half an hour, so it is fine to eat after that.

Can serrapeptase help with removing fibroids and opening of the Fallopian tubes. I have been taking 250,000 serrapeptase 1 tablet per day before breakfast, will it help open the tubes and stop the fibroids from growing. I had surgery 2 years ago to remove several fibroids and I don’t want them to grow back.
I also have pain on one of my shoulder which extends to my biceps and I have been referred to physio, can serrapeptase heal this pain.
Thanks for your help.
We do not have experience with the use of serrapeptase for uterine fibroids or blocked fallopian tubes. Vitamin D, FemmePhase capsules and flushing the fallopian tubes with poppy seed oil may help. Serrapeptase is very likely to help relieve the pain in your shoulder. Try taking 2 capsules daily on an empty stomach.

It is common for the capsule around silicone implants to harden and this can be painful.
Serrapeptase is safe to take and worth trying.
Sometimes it is safer to have the implants removed.

Serrapeptase will reduce scar tissue – take one three times daily 10 minutes before food with glass of water.
It will have a gradual effect and need to take it for 2 months
I cannot say how long it will take because I do not know the extent of the surgery. Was a cancer on the lip? Was it the whole lip or just part of the lip?

I started serrapeptase about a month ago, hoping to clear up small amounts of mucus and for general lung health. I’m having two itchy, kind of blistery bumps break out on my right leg and one on my left hand; also small bumps on the margin of my jaws. Could this be related to the serrapeptase? I’d like to keep taking it for the benefits. Please advise. Thank you!
This is not a typical reaction. Perhaps it’s an allergic reaction or perhaps it is not related and just a coincidence.

I have -
At C5/6 & C6/7 are broadbased disc osteophyte complexes, larger on the right. These both cause relatively severe narrowing at the right exiting foramina and encroachment upon the exiting right C6 & C7 nerve roots. The degree of narrowing is severe at right C7 nerve root.
Will serrapeptase eliminate osteophyte's?
Thanks in advance,
Serrapeptase probably won’t help. Vitamin K2 should help though. It assists with getting calcium into bones and away from deposits in other parts of the body.

Serrapeptase can aggravate ulcers or inflammation in the stomach or intestines. Ideally healing your digestion so you can tolerate the serrapeptase is key. Glutamine and the other ingredients in Gut Health powder help with this. So does a gluten, dairy and sugar free diet.

Serrapeptase can probably reduce the amount of scar tissue, but it seems like you are one of those people who genetically produce excess scar tissue. Most people can take 2 capsules twice daily. Taking high doses of serrapeptase can thin the blood excessively in some people and they experience nose bleeds or bruising.

Serrapeptase or nattokinase are unlikely to dissolve all the scar tissue, but they may reduce some. Nerve cells can die due to lack of blood supply.
Some research has shown that a ketogenic diet and exogenous ketones can assist with nerve repair.

tumor in september. I read in this thread that you shouldnt take serrapeptase after surgery? I ate it for 3 months now, today I got serious diarrhea after having two tablets this morning 1 hour before my celery juice which I also do every morning. I also take c-vitamin supplements and MSM. Is it too much for my body? Thanks.
It may be too much all at once. Try to separate your supplements out and take them at different times of the day.

Dr Cabot has recommended a number of supplements to shrink your simple liver cysts, which we recommend you obtain, and Serrapeptase is not among them.
They are not contraindicated with your menopause patch or thyroid meds although you may experience a better conversion of your thyroid meds and so be able to reduce the amount you take each day.
Take your thyroid medication early in the morning at least 30 minutes before any food and it is best to take supplements at least 2 hours away from any medication, this does not include the patch.

I have encountered the same thing as Amber posted:
"Amber June 26, 2019 at 6:57 pm
I took Serrapeptase fine for 2 months and then suddenly got sick after taking it with vomiting and fever."
With me, I took 120,000 SPU . I took one capsule on an empty stomach for a week. It was working GREAT helping with my sinuses, mucus, lungs clear up and also with body inflammations (hands, joints). (Got Serrapeptase for sinuses, mucus. lungs). I am 61 yr old. I did this usage / dosage for about week as I said.
THEN---one night I took the same dose--- and was vomiting and chills and intestines going all a rage. The only thing different was I took 2 hours after a meal with my Multi Vitamin, boron 10mgs and Prilosec 20mg tab (for stomach acid).
The reaction was horrible. Violent vomiting!!! I figure a reaction with the pills maybe? It was scary!!! I was not before taking the Prilosec when I started ----Serrapeptase, Hmmmm???
HOWEVER---I got my nerve up several days later and ----took my Serrapeptase again in the early morning, ---this morning 10/5/2019--- on what one would think would be an empty stomach---two hours later---I became violently ill once again---vomiting --and profuse diarrhea.
I am so perplexed. I really believe in Serrapeptase. What is going wrong? What am I doing wrong?
Any thoughts about my reactions? Scared to take it again. :( Sorry I relate unpleasant side effects--but that is what occurred. Any helpful insight please. Thank you.
We will certainly keep a copy of your symptoms on our records for further reference.
Any supplement, or food for that matter, may produce an allergic type response.
It is wise to not take Serrapeptase in the future.
Perhaps you should get an abdominal US? Because most cases of nausea and vomiting have a connection with the liver.
Because of the diarrhea, you are advised to have a colonoscopy and gastroscopy to ensure there is no digestive system abnormalities that may have caused the response to the Serrapeptase.

That is a good amount of serrapeptase to take. Best not to take it in the middle of the night because digestion slows down, so you may not absorb it as well.
Eliminating inflammatory foods such as sugar, alcohol, gluten and dairy products should help. Also you may benefit from seeing a physiotherapist, as you may need orthotics.

I would like to know if serrapeptase is ok fo me to take, you see I have degrading vertebrae in the spine , the disks between the vertebrae are swollen trapping nerves arthritis in the spine and other joints , my liver is damaged from 40 year hep c infection ,bad scaring, cured in 2016 , now have liver cancer two tumers smallest removed with radio therapy large one treated with micro beads to slow its growth , would serrapeptase help
Serrapeptase should help because it reduces inflammation. Joint Eze capsules may be more beneficial because the glucosamine helps to rebuild cartilage, and the herbs and enzymes in the formula reduce inflammation.

I have had some fibroids in my uterus for a couple of years now, and my naturopath here suggested that I could take a dosage of 250 000x6/a day. I have tried this method two years ago, I increased my dosage withing 6 months to 250 000x6, with no side effects. It didn't make the fibroids any smaller, but kept them from growing.
I took a break from taking it for another 6 months and the fibroids grew larger in size and number. I've been on Serrapeptase again for a few weeks, taking 250 000 x4/a day now, and through out the treatment I have felt increasingly tired, weak, and nauseous, I also have developed some cold symptoms, such as shivers throat ache and low body temperature every now and then.
Could this be somesurt of detox reaction, or maby something else, should I just wait and see what happens, or lower my dosage?
The difference in my medication now and the first round of Serrapeptase is that now I'm taking one beta-blocker 2,5 mg/a day for heart palpatations.
Have a lovely day and thank you in advance,
Sincerely, Maija
These symptoms indicate you might be low in iron. Fibroids often cause iron deficiency.
They are not typical symptoms from taking a high dose of serrapeptase.
